The tangram is a puzzle of Chinese origin, which is a square dissected into 7 pieces. The pieces are arranged in various ways to form different shapes or silhouettes. Some shapes can represent more than one object. It helps one to understand geometry and spacial relationships in a variety of ways.

Tan"gram, n. Etym: [cf. Trangram.]

Defn: a chinese toy made by cutting a square of thin wood, or other Suitable material, into seven pieces, as shown in the cut, these Pieces being capable of combination in various ways, so as to form a Great number of different figures. It is now often used in primary Schools as a means of instruction.
